“I simply do the best I can with what the Fortunes have given me, sama.”
Appearance and Personality
Doji Reisu is a tall and boyish Crane bushi, rarely without a certain light in his eyes. His hair is worn long, and is dyed white when his meager means allow. The clothing he wears is utilitarian and plain, often times sewn neatly but noticeably back together when damaged. Reisu is a hopeful and naive young idealist who’s only ambition is to better serve his lord. Though he is from a very minor and unimportant family with a duty neither pleasant nor prestigious, he has never once complained or recoiled from it. In this way, Reisu is the samurai ideal: working tirelessly and selflessly for his lord and Clan without regard for whether his dedication is deserved or acknowledged.
The ninth son of an extremely minor family of ji-samurai, Doji Reisu has always lived in a measure of obscurity. Through no fault of his own, save the insignificance of his family, the determined Crane was assigned to serve in Umoera Mura, the Rubble Village. Without the intervention of Utaku Aeko, it is likely he would have stayed there for the rest of his life, toiling in triviality, as Rubble Village is reticent to release those who call it home. Luckily for Doji Reisu, that life was not meant to be his. After the murder of Yoritomo Suzuhara, Reisu was chosen by his lord to deliver news of the crime to Toku Irui, the Emerald Magistrate of Aketsu, due to his tireless nature and stamina. True to this nature, Reisu ran through the morning, arriving at his destination just before lunch. Irui, uninterested in the problems of Rubble Village, sent Akodo Torokai’s yoriki to solve the problem. He guided the yoriki back to Umoera Mura without a single complaint. After becoming an Emerald Magistrate in her own right, remembering Reisu, Utaku Aeko sought to lift the genial samurai from his piteous position, calling upon him to become her yoriki in Broken Wave City.
